PRESS RELEASE:

Heavy Weight Comedy Jam

28 Feb 2009

At times like these, when people tell you to not even tighten your belt but sell your belt,  cut back, switch off the lights
and rent out the kids room...
There really is only ONE thing to do..buy your tickets now for the Real Heavyweight Comedy Jam back at Emperors Palace on 28 February 2009 at last years prices.

Featuring new comic on the bill,  the Worlds #1 Jewish Xhosa-speaking comedian Nik Rabinowitz.....Recently awarded 2008 Stand Up Comedian of the Year at the SA Comedy Awards.
Boundless energy and earthy charm, coupled with an animated and fluent use of English, Xhosa and Afrikaans, initially endeared this white farm boy from Plumstead-West to millions of South African television viewers as the multi-lingual presenter of SABC 1's Coca-Cola Megamillions Gameshow. He later demonstrated his versatility by becoming M-Web's big black box guy – surfing trains in lycra bodysuits and persuading large female traffic cops to pop into the post-office for his Gran.
However it was his skill as a stand-up comedian that took South African audiences and critics by storm and a loyal and appreciative fan base quickly grew. His fourth and most recent one-man show "IN THE NIK" enjoyed a sell-out season, as well as great critical success.

Capetonian funnyman, Kurt Schoonraad makes another appearance on the Jam after a long break.  Kurt is a popular favourite on the South African Arts Festival scene and some of his stage accolades include Oppikoppi Music Festival, Up The Creek Music Festival, the Granaat Music Festival, the Hermanus Whale Festival, the East Coast Radio Ha Ha comedy showcase in Durban, Smirnoff Comedy festival and the Cape Town International Comedy Festival. Kurt has also been a favourite at the 5 fm Heavy Weight comedy Jams. He has been invited to perform on many national comedy tours including Vodacom, Green Spicer, the Sprite national comedy tours and recently the J&B Met. Most recently Kurt produced Both The Barnyard National comedy Festival and the “Jou Ma se Comedy” event, together with the Cape Town Festival.

The rest of the hilarious line up includes, Krijay Govender, Darren Whackhead Simpson and Ndumiso Lindi.

Another new feature on the Heavyweight Comedy Jam on 28 February is the very popular and funny STARSHIP IMPROVISE with Chris Forrest as your MC.
Starship Improvise is a collective of South Africa’s freshest, funniest and most talented improvisers, including popular celebrity Colin Moss and comedian Al Prodgers who will be featuring on this line up doing “whose line is it anyway” style short form improv. It’s all made up on the spot using suggestions from the audience, and is always hilariously funny.

So, don’t miss the first Real Heavyweight Comedy Jam for 2009 at Emperors Palace on Saturday 28 February.  Tickets are from R115 and includes computicket service charges.
