The Johannesburg Civic Theatre announces yet another strategic coup - the January 2007 arrival in South Africa of Broadway’s hugely spectacular and heart-warmingly feel-good musical
Civic Theatre CEO, Bernard Jay, has brought together a new team in order to increase in-house production possibilities without breaching the risk management procedures imposed upon the theatre as a receiving house.
Joining forces with prolific British theatre producer Paul Elliott – original lead producer for the West End and UK Tour productions of THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE – and local promoter and entrepreneur Roddy Quin – through his newly created Real Theatre offshoot – a deal has been put together to bring the 2002 Broadway Tony® Award Winner for Best Musical to South Africa with the original fabulous West End sets and costumes and a completely South African cast and company.
“There just isn’t enough product being created within South Africa in order to occupy our Nelson Mandela Theatre stage fifty weeks each year. And yet we have all seen in recent years that the skills and talents exist in the country to turn large-scale musical productions into hit shows,” explains Bernard Jay. “So we needed to be pro-active and bring together some major international players to make this event happen locally. THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE will be just the beginning.”
Ticket prices for preview performances – from January 11th to January 13th - are discounted by R50.
