DEBBIE DOES DALLAS
THE MUSICAL
A 2002 hit off-Broadway musical, DEBBIE DOES DALLAS is a tongue-in-cheek show based on the infamous – and hugely successful - 1978 adult film. The show follows Debbie Benton, who wins a place on the Dallas Cowboy’s Cheerleaders Squad – if only she can find the money to get there.
What follows is a coming of age story of a bunch of small-town, mid-American high school teenagers. As they all seek their version of the American Dream, they discover what fulfilment will really cost them and whether or not it’s a price worth paying. And they discover sex, too!
Book and Lyrics for DEBBIE DOES DALLAS are by Kelly Marcel and Music by Andrew Sherman.
In a coup for entertainment in South Africa, naturally beautiful and multi-talented superstar CAPRICE BOURRET will not only produce the musical for an exclusive five-week season at The Johannesburg Civic Theatre’s Tesson Theatre, but also star as Lisa, the school slut. Having grown up in a trailer with an alcoholic single mother, Lisa is all too aware of how powerful her body is and she is not afraid to use it! |

The 5'9" beauty Caprice has seen her share of work in the entertainment industry and is a household name in her adopted home of England. Caprice has done it all, from theatre, singing, film, modelling, television to owning her own international lingerie company By Caprice Lingerie and being the cover model on over two hundred and fifty publications. She starred in the West End production of the multi-award winning musical Rent and in The Vagina Monologues.
The production team in South Africa – By Caprice Lingerie, Real Theatre and The Johannesburg Civic Theatre – has brought together a stunning supporting cast of top local talent to join Caprice on stage.
Featured in the role of Dick, who is obsessed with sex and just can’t control his teenage urges, is JACQUES TERRE’BLANCHE. Jacques captured hearts of South African women of all ages during the 2003 M-Net Idols competition. This blond Capetonian with his unique voice has since been a busy boy. Apart from the Idols CD, he produced his first album Jacques EQ in 2005 and has just recently released a second self-produced CD, JACQ Revealed.
Also featured in the title role of Debbie Benton, an all-American girl whose teenage hormones are working overtime, is TANYA VAN GRAAN. Tanya studied Musical Theatre at the Tswane University of Technology, majored in acting for stage and musicals and has been featured on television in Hard Copy II, One Way and
Snitch II.
Making up the cast of nine are:
FEM BELLING, coming back home to South Africa after creating the role of Donna in the UK premiere of Debbie Does Dallas: The Musical in 2005 and fresh from the West End, where she is currently performing in Footloose – The Musical.
ALAN FORD, well known radio personality and TV producer (Three Talk), plays Dick’s buddy Tim. Tim is Donna’s boyfriend, but bemoans the fact that he’s only got to ‘second base’ with her on a regular basis.
TESSA DENTON is cast as Roberta, Lisa’s best friend. During the show, Roberta finds her libido and becomes very attached to it. Tessa’s most recent of many featured stage roles in South Africa was in Grease.
BRANDON AURET plays sweet and vulnerable Kevin, who hangs out with Dick and Tim but something is different about him. Kevin is hiding a deep, dark secret. Brandon is best known for his Isidingo role of Doep, the intense, justice-seeking, Cherel-must-pay policeman.
BUSISIWE LURAYI is Tammy, who is black. However, Tammy spends most of the show thinking she is blonde. Tammy also has her sights set on becoming the President of the United States and nothing is going to get in her way. Busisiwe’s recent theatre credits include That’ll Be The Day, Sarafina and Pata Pata.
PIERRE VAN HEERDEN plays the role of Mr Greenfelt, who fancies Debbie and willingly gives her a job at his sports store. Mr Greenfelt is not an innocent bystander. Pierre recently had a personal career triumph as the vulnerable and moving Amos Hart in the hit stage musical Chicago.
Directing DEBBIE DOES DALLAS is exciting young talent CARL BEUKES. As a popular South African actor, Carl’s television appearances include roles in The Res, Isidingo, 25 Degrees South and Soul City. He has been involved with many stage productions, but favourites include Certified Male, The Actors Centre’s recent Macbeth and Amadeus.
CLINTON ZERF is Musical Director and DENIS HUTCHINSON designs the set and lighting.
BERNARD JAY, CEO of the Johannesburg Civic Theatre, serves as Executive Producer. Although the marketing for the show carries a Parental Guidance (PG) Rating, the entertainment is a spoof musical comedy and not (insist the producers….) the “dirty night out” that the title just might suggest !
DEBBIE DOES DALLAS: The Musical runs in the intimate 251-seat Tesson Theatre at The Johannesburg Civic Theatre from January 16th until February 18th 2007.
Tickets are R240 for the front four rows and then R200 (prices exclusive of the Computicket booking fee). Call 083 915 8000 or visit www.computicket.com.
