Jimmy Carr – Laughter Therapy Live in South Africa in December 2011

Jimmy Carr, one of the funniest and original comedians in the world, is heading to the Grand Arena in Cape Town on Thursday 8 December and then to the Sandton Convention Centre on Saturday 10 December 2011. The Johannesburg shows are proudly brought to you by 94.7 Highveld Stereo.
Described by the theatre as "an evening of non-stop jokes, gags and banter", the show should appeal to anyone who enjoys live comedy. Famed for his deadpan delivery and risqué material, Carr has received a host of comedy awards and released popular DVDs such as Making People Laugh and Telling Jokes.
In August 2010 Jimmy’s all-new solo show Laughter Therapy debuted at the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh. Starting just a few days after the close of the marathon Rapier Wit tour, during which Jimmy will have played to over 300,000 people by the time it finishes in November 2011, the Laughter Therapy tour will have been even bigger and delighted audiences up and down the country. Often referred to as ‘the hardest working man in comedy’, Jimmy has so far performed his stand up tour shows to well over one million people in the UK.
In January 2011 Jimmy joined forces with David Mitchell, Charlie Brooker and Lauren Laverne to host 10 O’Clock Live, a brand new weekly series taking a fresh and funny look at the news and current events. Jimmy’s other recent television appearances include The Graham Norton Show, Have I Got News for You, Would I Lie to You? and QI.
A household name in the UK, Jimmy is also a rising star in the US, where his profile continues to grow. Jimmy recently performed a second Comedy Central Special and also appeared on NBC’s Late Night with Conan O’Brien – his fifth appearance to date. Jimmy’s game show Distraction aired on Comedy Central and was subsequently repeated. He has also appeared four times on NBC’s flagship programme The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. In July 2010, Jimmy performed at the Montreal Just for Laughs Comedy Festival for the sixth time.
With conventional media conquered, Jimmy is also a pioneer of digital comedy, topping the album charts on iTunes and with a Twitter following of over half a million. He was the first major comedian to perform within the online world of Second Life, and the results can be seen as an extra on the Comedian DVD. In 2009, Jimmy recorded a series of podcasts, entitled The Writers’ Room, in which he and his favourite writer friends chat about the latest news and events, exchanging anecdotes and quips, offering an insight into how comedy material can develop within a writing environment. The podcast proved a smash hit, shooting straight to the top of the iTunes download chart.
Some of his awards include:
• Nuts Awards 2010: Best Stand Up
• LAFTA Awards 2008: Best Stand Up

REVIEW OF 46664 - It's no joke
Masters of comedy deliver side-splitting acts in support of 46664
It's no joke, but it was pretty damn funny. Sharp wit, hilarious one-liners and pertinent social commentary were in no short supply at the annual It's No Joke comedy festival at Emperors Palace last night (1 December, 2011).
Partnering with 5FM and 46664, South Africa's top comics again united to share the stage, creating awareness around and raising funds for the 46664 campaign.
5FM DJ Poppy Ntshongwana opened the event with words of encouragement for the initiative, and thanked the audience for showing their support.
"You've done your bit by buying a ticket for this event, helping ensure that we continue to celebrate Nelson Mandela's humanitarian legacy by making every day a Mandela Day."
John Vlismas was in top form as he MC'd the evening and, together with comics Riaad Moosa, Nik Rabinowitz, David Kau, Tumi Morake, Chris Forrest, Deep Fried Man, Joey Rasdien and Conrad Koch, showed us that if we can't laugh at ourselves we're in pretty deep trouble.
Their comic routines were peppered with serious and inspiring undertones, raising awareness about World Aids Day. "Let's change HIV into HIVictory," quipped Rasdien, while Morake encouraged people to get tested.
As part of the build-up to this year's show, 5FM DJs and the comics spent a day at Hugh's Haven in Yeoville on 19 November 2011, painting the walls of the home as part of their 67 minutes for the Mandela Day initiative.
The comedians have also pledged to support various other charities, hoping to inspire all South Africans to follow their lead and get involved wherever possible in support of the global Mandela Day campaign. They will be taking part in these charitable activities within the next three months.
JOHNNY CLEGG
For one night only, Johnny Clegg will perform with Juluka to celebrate his 30th anniversary in the music industry, with a once-off concert at the Grand Arena at the GrandWest casino in Cape Town on 27th August 2011. Proudly brought to you by Castle Lager Homegrown. The original Juluka band will be reunited for this show only, performing the hit songs of Juluka and Johnny Clegg spanning his 30 year career.
During the three decades he's been making anthemic hits, Johnny has proved himself to be an outstanding musical ambassador for his country.
The show will feature dancers and audio visual footage starting from Johnny's early years to present day. This will be the first time that Juluka will be seen in Cape Town since their concert at the Good Hope Centre 26 years ago.
"What makes this relationship between Castle Lager, Johnny Clegg and Juluka remarkable is the fact that they are both iconic South African brands. Many of our best memories and moments are of watching Johnny Clegg and Juluka entertain us with proudly homegrown tunes with a Castle Lager in hand, " said Alastair Hewitt, General Manager of Castle Lager.
By bringing together African music structures with Celtic folk music and international rock sounds, Johnny pioneered a new and unique sound, establishing himself as South Africa's biggest musical export. From Europe to the States, from Australia to Potchefstroom, audiences in sold out venues have danced to "Cruel, Crazy Beautiful World", "Crocodile Love", "I Call Your Name", "Take My Heart Away", and "African Sky Blue".
Johnny Clegg is known for his energetic stage performances and this is a show not to be missed. It all comes together with a Castle.
